starfield display
a refinement of a scatter diagram used in information visualization. A starfield display charts a large number of datapoints with individual points representing records in a database. The individual points can be represented as simple shapes and colors, but may also contain complex figures and labels depending on the complexity of the records they represent and the degree of detail the user desires. Interactive capabilities permit a user to manipulate the starfield to select subsets of points, review individual points, scale, scroll, and zoom in order to explore the dataset.
