semantic net analysis
a method for understanding the structure of a domain by diagramming the relationships between objects in the domain and attributes of those objects. The information for creating a semantic net is usually obtained by interviewing users and domain experts. The diagram (the semantic net) is used to create a conceptual overview of the subject domain and is used to ensure a clear structure, consistency, and completeness in the overall application design. Objects in the diagram are connected by arrows labeled by relationships. Typical relationships include IS-A, HAS-A, CAN-BE, and CAN-HAVE, though any type of relationship may be used when helpful.
