Glossary » scrollbar
scrollbar
(or scroll bar) a control for moving the view of an area that is too large to be entirely visible in its display region. Vertical scrollbars (shown below) move the data up and down, and horizontal scrollbars move the data left and right within the view.
“Scroll arrows” cause the view to be shifted incrementally in one direction at a time. A “scrollbox” (also called a “thumb” or “elevator”) allows the user to move to a specific region. “End boxes” are buttons at either end of a scrollbar that allow a user to scroll immediately to the beginning or end (they don’t appear in most GUI standards).
