doorway page
(or gateway page) a page designed as an entranceway to a website. The most common doorway is a homepage, but a doorway page can be a useful alternative entrance that appeals to a specific target audience. An example is to use a doorway as the page people go to after clicking a banner ad, that addresses their specific concerns more accurately than the homepage would. A doorway page can also be submitted to search engines to encourage multiple routes into a website that suit different interests. However, this is sometimes abused, in the case of spamdexing, when pages are made with specific keyword combinations that suit a particular search engine but without providing an appropriate result for that keyword search.
