criterion testing
user testing that measures user performance to determine whether a target performance level has been reached. Typically a project will begin by determining usability requirements in terms of target performance along various benchmarks, e.g. “starting from the website homepage, the average user will be able to locate the contact phone number within 10 seconds”. A criterion test measures whether the user meets the requirements.
This is in contrast to:
- testing to find problems which will be corrected
- comparison testing (e.g. competitive user testing) to see which interface is better
