control key
CTRL; a key on used as a shortcut to issue commands (such as menu commands) and to type in certain non-alphanumeric values by holding down the control key and pressing another letter. The control key has been around a long time and taken on a lot of meanings, making its use often confusing. CTRL-C was an extremely common key combination for many years to interrupt the currently running application. However, on today’s systems it often refers to the Copy command.
