The Usability Engineer works within a multi-disciplinary team as the user advocate, ensuring customer needs are represented in the functional definition and deployment of each project. The ideal candidate will have a strong vision for how business needs, user needs, and technology can be mobilized to create best-in-class account management user experiences on both web and emerging platforms.
Responsibilities include:
- Acts as customer advocate on project teams by ensuring that customer needs are represented in the functional definition of each project.
- Facilitate focus groups and ideation sessions. Design, run, and analyze usability and heuristic studies for account management and support capabilities across all platforms. (web, TV, wireless devices, IP devices).
- Prepare and deliver presentations on the results of usability studies, making quantifiable recommendations for change based on data.
- Conduct competitive analyses and use data to guide design of new products.
- Manage focus groups, surveys and usability testing for new products and enhancements to existing products.
- Create user personae and use-case scenarios.
- Work with design, development, and project team members in the development of the conceptual UI and final interface.
- Work as a part of cross-functional teams throughout various departments.
- Interface with senior management as necessary, providing reports, presentations, and recommendations.
Other requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, or related discipline. MS/PhD preferred
- Five-years-plus experience designing usability studies for large-scale, consumer facing web applications including ethnographic research, usability studies, and heuristic evaluations
- Must be able to clearly articulate complex ideas to a variety of audiences with varying degrees of technical sophistication.
- Experience in moderating test sessions and focus groups. In-depth knowledge of User Centered Design techniques and process.
- Excellent analytical ability plus excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to plan and prioritize competing projects with minimal supervision.
- Must have advanced understanding of established interactive technologies and exposure to emerging technologies, including strategic use of Rich Internet Applications.
