Position duties and responsibilities:
- Identify usability goals for products and develop long term usability test plans.
- Design, run, and analyze usability and heuristic studies for web-based and client-based software products.
- Design, run, and analyze usability studies for TV/video based products (such as IPG, photo, and music).
- Design, run, and analyze usability studies for telephony based devices, such as landline phones, IP devices, wireless devices, and PDA.
- Prepare and deliver presentations on the results of usability studies, making concrete, data-driven recommendations for change based on findings.
- Work with design, development, and product team members to develop concepts, storyboards, and prototypes.
- Develop user-based scenarios for products.
- Track implementation of recommended changes.
- Conduct competitive analyses and use data to guide design of new products.
- Cultivate and manage internal relationships with IT development teams.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with LOB product teams.
- Explore new technologies and their application to real-world services.
- Facilitate focus groups and ideation sessions.
- Conduct Primary and Secondary Market Research analysis and focus groups.
- Conduct Market Analysis to understand market problems, competitive offerings, technology assessment, business opportunity and product/service requirements.
- Analyze market dynamics to understand the market problems and customers expectations in solving those problems.
Required skills & experience:
- Demonstrated experience designing and conducting different types of user research studies, including lab-based usability studies, field studies, and usability inspections (heuristic evaluations or cognitive walkthroughs).
- Excellent analytical ability, especially with regard to observation of user behavior.
- Solid background in collecting and analyzing data and generating reports.
- Experience in moderating test sessions.
- Excellent oral & written communication skills; can present findings concisely and effectively to critical audiences.
- Can work independently and effectively prioritize time between multiple projects.
- Flexible: can adapt to changing schedules and different types of products, and develop new user research methods where needed.
- Can work well in cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and UI designers.
- Experience in working with product teams to ensure that user research findings are tracked and acted on.
- Ability to work concurrently on multiple projects.
- Bachelor's in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience.
Desired skills & experience:
- Minimum 3 years experience with web design concepts and techniques.
- At least 2 years experience with prototyping/development tools - Director, Flash, and HTML.
- Experience in telecommunications/telephony industry.
- Experience with user interface design in the TV (broadcast, cable, or satellite) industry.
- Experience with TV based applications – IPG, photo, and music.
- Experience with user interface design on telephony devices (landline phones, IP devices, wireless devices, PDAs).
- Master's in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science or related field of equivalent experience.
