Usability Glossary: usefulness

the extent to which software actually helps to solve users real, practical problems. A system may be easy to use but not relevant to the actual needs of a user. Usefulness depends to a large degree on the features and functionality of a system, but also on the usability of a system. User interface designers prefer to be involved in the design of a system at an early stage so that the software requirements are consistent with user needs.
