Usability Courses


General information

Foraker Design offers a variety of courses in usability and design at our office in Boulder, Colorado or at your location as needed. Our instructors are experienced professionals with backgrounds in human-computer interaction, communications, cognitive psychology, computer science, information architecture, and graphic design. Each course is a hands-on workshop that welcomes peer-to-peer and peer-to-instructor interaction. You will come away with a working knowledge of the course content and a course packet that includes all presentation materials and an extensive bibliography.

Instructor biographies

Susan D. Warcup

Susan D. Warcup

Sue Warcup is Director of Usability at Foraker Design in Boulder, Colorado. She performs usability audits and conducts usability research for Foraker Design's clients in industries such as health, technology, finance, and e-commerce. She also consults with clients to successfully implement user-centered design processes and implement outside-in design philosophies.

Sue holds an M.S. degree in Technical Communication from Colorado State University where her research focused on information scent and the information foraging theory. Her current area of interest is speech interface usability.

Sue joined Foraker Design after being with the IBM Corporation for five years where her experiences included roles in information development, user-centered design, and information architecture.

Sue is an avid traveler, runner and hiker and spends most of her free time outdoors enjoying Colorado's Rocky Mountains.

Sara Bly

Sara Bly

Sara Bly is the principal in Sara Bly Consulting, a sole proprietorship for designing and conducting user studies. She has been an active researcher and practitioner in qualitative user studies for more than 20 years, with a focus on understanding the context of the activity as well as the specific user task. Sara has particular expertise in technology support of collaborative activity. She has conducted user studies of collaborative work and play ranging from scientific use of big equipment to long-distance office work to teen-agers and instant messaging.

Sara received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis, on the presentation of multivariate data using non-speech audio. She also holds an MA in Education from Stanford University. From 1984-1994, she worked at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center as part of multi-disciplinary teams including anthropologists, designers, and computer scientists.

Sara enjoys living in the woods in Oregon where an occasional visit by a herd of elk is a treat.
